Count density refers to the number of plastic particles found per cubic meter of water. The larger the circle on the map, the greater the number of plastic particles found at that particular site.
1999 Voyage Summary
The above map shows the sample locations of Algalita's first voyage to the North Pacific Subtropical Gyre to research plastic pollution. This original dataset was from samples gathered using the Manta trawl and showed that plastic outweighed plankton in the sampled areas by a ratio of 6 to 1.
