Amigos de los Rios Presents AMRI a Science Award

Algalita Marine Research Institute was presented with a Science Award at the Amigos de los Rios gala dinner held on April 29, 2005. Accepting the award for AMRI was Capt. Charles Moore, Founder. It is the intent that AMRI's recognition at this event will have an impact throughout the Emerald Necklace region, leading to awareness and further protection of the watershed by residents of the San Gabriel Valley and beyond.

The gala was held to introduce The Emerald Necklace, a 17-mile interconnected network of multi-benefit trails, parks and greenway touching ten cities and nearly _ million residents along the Rio Hondo and San Gabriel Rivers. Nestled in the heart of the San Gabriel Valley, the greenway will provide much needed recreational areas for communities suffering from the effects of urban density; including obesity, asthma, Type II diabetes and hypertension. "It's obvious that this bold and exciting plan will have a lasting, positive effect on this area for generation to come', said Capt. Moore, "and I applaud those who had the vision and desire to make it a reality. We're deeply honored to be recognized by Amigos de los Rios".
