1999 Voyage Summary
The maps below show the sample locations of Algalita's first voyage to the North Pacific Subtropical Gyre to research plastic pollution. This original dataset was from samples gathered using the Manta trawl and showed that plastic outweighed plankton in the sampled areas by a ratio of 6 to 1.
Count density refers to the number of plastic particles found per cubic meter of water. The larger the circle on the map, the greater number of plastic particles found at that particular site.

Weight density refers to the total weight of plastic particles found per cubic meter of water. The larger the circle on the map, the greater the weight of plastic particles found at that particular site.
